In contrast to heat transfer by convection, thermal conduction has nothing to do with macroscopic displacements in the body, but is a result of a direct energy transfer between particles, such as molecules, atoms, and electrons, with higher energy and ones with lower energy. Thermal conduction is the transfer of heat from hotter to cooler parts of a body resulting in equalizing of temperature.
